Mentoring has become increasingly popular and relevant in medicine over the last decade. A recent editorial in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine highlights the concerns around the well-being of doctors and the association between mentoring and better physical and mental health, better relationships and ultimately better work [1]. The General Medical Council (GMC) state, in ‘Good Medical Practice’ [2] ‘You should be willing to find and take part in structured support opportunities offered by your employer or contracting body (for example, mentoring). You should do this when you join an organisation and whenever your role changes significantly throughout your career’ [2].
