One of the challenges in identifying workers with hearing loss is that not everyone recognizes that they have a hearing loss perhaps due to its gradual onset, or the belief that it is a normal part of ageing. Occupational health professionals may need to assess hearing as part of a fitness for task assessment or as part of audiometric health surveillance for noise-induced hearing loss. Pure tone audiometry is the standard method to determine hearing thresholds in hearing conservation programmes.
